THE OIL IS RUNNING OUT

A petrochemical plant in Saudi-Arabia

Over the last 10 years we have seen automotive fuel prices soar and global governments trying to reduce harmful emissions in an attempt to preserve our good planet.
Not a bad idea, but what can we do about this as individuals, we would like to help save the planet but at the same time we dont want it to cost us anymore than it already is. What with the higher taxation of vehicles that ommitt higher harmful emissions and congestion charges in force it seems like its going to cost us more

ELECTRIC HYBRID

There is however an option to buy a "GREEN CAR" which in theory should save us money by having lower fuel bills and a lower taxation class, but that usually means having a limp wristed car which is probably big enough for two adults and a dog.

Ther are a few decent electric hybrid cars around, for example there is the Honda Civic and the Toyota Prius. They don't save you a huge amount on the old fuel bills but they are a step in the right direction especially if you live in London as they are congestion fee exempt.

If however you have a few more pounds in your back-pocket there are a few luxury electric hybrid models available. Lexus do have a number of models that are electric-hybrid but these models will be at a premium, not an option for the average working person.

LPG

Another way of saving on fuel costs LPG (liquid petroluem gas). You can either purchase a vehicle which is already running on lpg or convert your own car to LPG. This can only be done to petrol vehicles only at a cost of around £1000 to £2500.

Buying a car that is already converted to LPG is cheaper but sometimes means having to put up with the troublesome "SINGLE INJECTION UNIT" which most of the older conversions will have. Look for "MULTI-INJECTION" conversions or if converting another vehicle insist on the "MULTI-INJECTION" system,

The fuel savings with LPG is quite good, in total you should save around 40%.

HYDROGEN

The future of the automobile however lies with HYDROGEN, Honda have made a model which has an on-board hydrogen fuel-cell generator which creates electricity powering the electric motor. Hydrogen is very abundant which means it will burn alot slower than petrol. The only emissions are water and fuel efficiency is three times better than a petrol car and two times better than electric/petrol hybrid car.

The only problem is the lack of hydrogen filling stations, but i will try to keep you updated on this situation
